Before the formation of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC),there was the Parent-Teacher Association (P-TA). A chapter of the P-TA was formed in Pitt Meadows in December 1943 with Mrs. Groome as its first president. The group was made up of parents and teachers who worked together to advocate for local schools, and, as a group, they fundraised funds for school equipment and playgrounds, supported teachers in improving the curriculum, financed school libraries, worked to reduce overcrowding, helped establish a Kindergarten program, and ?<\/span>much more. Like the PAC's of today, the PTA also did “thank you, teas” for staff and to raise funds. They served cocoa (with sugar purchased with extra rations obtained from the War Time Prices and Trade Board) as one of its first activities. Below are black and white photos of a fundraising tea held by the PTA in the 1960's. <\/p>\r\n

The first photo is of Mrs.(Pauline) Barnes who volunteered at the admission desk, likely recording names and collecting donations.<\/p>\r\n

In the second photo are Mrs. Jones and Mrs. J.G. Beckett who volunteered to pour tea.<\/p>\r\n

In the third photo are Mrs. Augustine and Mrs. Brisbin arranging sandwiches.<\/p>\r\n
