September is here and that means the end of our summer Heritage Thursdays program. The museum was lucky to find a great program coordinator in Nikki McLaren, who, after many years of involvement in Girl Guides and babysitting, rocked the program with her creative crafts and activities. This year we had 75 kids attend the sessions which ran from July 11th – August 22nd. Each session costs only $6 per child between the ages of 5 – 10. Some of the Thursdays included things such as mosaic making, candle dipping, historical photography methods, puppets, and fashionable “fascinator” hats and bow ties! The top two most popular sessions this year were Photo Frenzy and Puppet Pals. During Photo Frenzy, we made camera obscuras which allowed us to view the magical process of how cameras capture an image. During Puppet Pals everyone got to let their imagination take over along while sharpening their sewing skills! This session also ended with awesome puppet shows put on by the kids. Crazy for Candles was another popular time. For this session, everyone learned how the traditional candle dipping process is done and got to take home their very own hand-dipped candle creation! Everyone had a blast this year at Heritage Thursdays and each session was full of fun and creative activities for all to enjoy!
