Museum Assistant, Rebekah Abebe, mainly works in digitizing the Museum’s Archives by scanning documents, photos, books, newspaper clippings, etc. to be uploaded onto the Museum’s website and database. One of her past projects was scanning Air Raid Preparation documents, the Farmers Institute meeting minutes, and the Pitt Meadows Elementary Parent-Teacher Association (P-TA) Scrapbook. The image on the left shows Rebekah holding pages from the P-TA scrapbook. Once the documents are scanned, she uses Photoshop to make the handwriting legible.
In February of 2018, the Museum uploaded its new website. She contributed to the development of the new website by uploading most of the text and working on the presentation of the formatting for articles.
One of her current projects is uploading map markers onto the Pitt Meadows Museum’s Community History map. This interactive map showcases the Museum’s and the public’s contribution to the historical knowledge of the Pitt Meadows area. The map uses red diamond icons or “map markers” to pinpoint the location of a historical event, the history of the naming of roads, heritage buildings, and other significant landmarks. Rebekah researches Pitt Meadows’ history and then writes a summary of the research and attaches each article with an image to produce a map marker. Rebekah has uploaded more than 90% of the map markers onto the Community Map.
Rebekah is responsible for writing weekly articles based on research of Pitt Meadows’ history which is posted on the Museum’s Facebook and Instagram. This post is called Memory Lane Monday.
Her other tasks include data entry, accessioning artifacts, giving tours, and presentations to students, organizing documents, general research requests, assisting with Heritage Thursdays, and helping with Museum hosted events such as Pitt Meadows Day at the Museum, the Heritage Tea, and Culture Days.
