Summer Museum Collections Technician


Start Date: Wednesday, June 4th

End Date: Sunday, August 17th

Duration: 9 weeks at 30 hours per week; 2 weeks at 24 hours per week (11 weeks in total)

Days and Hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but with some changes in order to accommodate special events and stats.

Rate: $18.50 per hour with 4% vp in lieu of vacation time. No other benefits.

The successful applicant in this position will work with Museum staff in a number of areas in the collection at the Museum as follows:

  • * Training in Accessioning of Museum and Archival Collections
  • * Working on the accessioning, scanning, data entry of photographs, documents and objects in the two McMyn family collections.
  • * Assisting senior staff and volunteers with the cleanout of the storage garage at the Museum and conduct an inventory and re-accession and photographing of objects contained therein.
  • * Working on the encapsulation and storage of Maps that have been moved to the new Map storage area of the museum.
  • * Weather permitting, assisting volunteers with the cleaning and painting of exterior farm machinery objects
  • * Other collection related tasks that may and do arise between grant writing and position starting
  • * Assisting the Summer Coordinator with staffing at Heritage Thursdays
  • * Working at special and other events including Pitt Meadows Day and Canada Day.

 

As we are a small facility, this position, along with other staff, take turns greeting the public at each of our two sites - The General Store and the Hoffmann and Son Site. 

As in past years, the successful candidate is encouraged to look at a task that they may be interested in doing or feels would add to the Museum's programs, and work on it as time allows.

Other related duties also apply including (but not limited to) sharing the maintenance duties such as vacuuming, garden watering, exhibit case cleaning, etc. These duties are usually accomplished during slow times while on duty greeting the public or before/after a public tour.

Note: Canada Day falls on a Tuesday this year but all Museum staff are required to work at the Museum's booth at the event and will be paid accordingly and be given another day off in lieu.

Note: the above position is contingent on funding and on approval of selected applicant by the CSJ program. If not accepted by the program, the applicant's offer of employment will be terminated.
