The Pitt Meadows Museum is looking for an individual to work with Museum staff on a variety of projects that relate to the objects and archival collections at the Museum this summer. This is a position suitable for a person thinking about a career in cultural resource management or a history student looking to add experience in museums to their resume.
Assisting with setting up our new maps storage area and working with two recently received photo collections are the prime tasks this summer, but other collection duties may include: exhibit case cleaning and reorganizing; reorganizing and inventory in storage and secondary site; cleaning and painting of some exterior objects (weather permitting); training in accessioning of museum and archival collections; other related that may arise before position starting.
As we are a small facility, this position, along with other staff, take turns greeting the public at each of our two sites, and the Technician will also assist the Summer Programmer and other Museum staff with Heritage Thursday for Children afternoons and at two summer off-site events - Pitt Meadows Day and Canada Day.
As in past years, the successful candidate is encouraged to look at a task they may be interested in doing or feel would add value to the Museum, and work on it as time allows.
Other related duties also apply including sharing maintenance duties such as vacuuming, garden watering, exhibit case glass cleaning, etc. These duties are usually accomplished during slow times while on duty greeting the public or before/after a public tour.
