This position is primarily focused on developing, running and evaluating the Museum's annual Heritage Thursdays for Children program that runs July through mid-August each summer. Included in the planning are games, crafts, and an education component (slide show and activity sheet). The successful candidate will also be involved in assisting with the Museum's Pitt Meadows Day booth on June 7th and planning for and running the Museum's Canada Day booth on July 1st. Working with other staff on other summer programs such as tours and any other off-site activities we are asked to participate in is also part of the position. As we are a small facility, this position, along with other staff, take turns greeting the public at each of our two sites - General Store and Hoffmann and Son.
In addition, the Summer Programs Coordinator, under the direction of Museum staff, will be taking a look at the condition of our hands-on teaching collection, including our children's toys area, to determine the state and what needs repairs and/or replacement. The Coordinator will then research replacements and work with staff and volunteers on repairs. When required, the Coordinator will also do new hands-on tags and instructions cards.
As in past years, the successful candidate is encouraged to look at a task they may be interested in doing or feels would add to the Museum's programs and work on it as time allows.
Other related duties also apply, including (but not limited to) sharing maintenance duties such as vacuuming, garden watering, exhibit case glass cleaning, etc. These duties are usually accomplished during slow times while on duty greeting the public or before/after public tour.
Note: Canada Day falls on a Tuesday this year but all Museum staff are required to work at the Museum's booth at the event and will be paid accordingly and be given another day off in lieu.
Note: the above position is contingent on funding and on the approval of the selected applicant by the CSJ program. If not accepted by the program, the applicant's offer of employment will be terminated.
